A mound, in æalogy, is a mostly self-contained world that exists as a solid surface within a much larger plane, typically one of many such worlds in that plane. Generally mounds are mostly surrounded by vacuum or thin gas, but the mounds of Zien are exceptions, existing instead as cavities within a plane-filling plenum of rock. Other examples of mounds include the planets of Herit, the rews of Charos, and the vegari of Lothenmydhe.
The word has no relation other than homonymy to the word "mound" meaning a pile of dirt.
