The Wongery

January 8, 2026: Daily NPC—Rathen Warblood

Rathen Warblood is the proprietor of the Silver Hook, the largest and most popular tavern in Fishertown. The Silver Hook is also technically an inn, having some rooms for rent upstairs, but they're seldom occupied; it's food and drink that make up the majority of its income. Many of the local fishermen come to the Silver Hook after work to spend some of their income drowning their worries in its ale and spirits and socializing with each other. Though he does employ bartenders and waitstaff, Warblood spends most of his time in the tavern personally overseeing its operation and chatting with his customers. He learns a lot that way about the goings-on in the neighborhood—the cliché of the tavernkeeper being a good source of rumors may not be firmly grounded in reality in general, but in Warblood's case it's actually true.

Warblood grew up in Fishertown, one of many sons of a family of shrimpers. He liked the neighborhood, but hated the work, and in his spare time learned zymurgy and set up a home brewery where he made some craft ales to sell to fellow fishermen. Before too long he was making enough money with his brews to be able to quit the shrimping business, and eventually saved up enough to buy a tavern of his own. He's not married, yet, but he's been spending a lot of time lately with a woman from the Docks, and there's talk that a wedding may be imminent.

Rathen Warblood is a large, hearty man whose hefty build is made up of roughly equal parts of muscle and fat, and whose rubicund complexion is perhaps as much due to perpetual sunburn as to his natural skin tone. He has a broad mouth and a toothy grin, below a nose and ears that give the impression of being lumps of clay someone stuck onto his face. He favors striped shirts and trousers, always wearing an apron over them even if he's not doing anything in the kitchen that requires it.
