March 30, 2026: Daily NPC—Otherwho
For the most part fey are strange and otherworldly beings that keep themselves separate from humanity. A fey calling themself Otherwho is an exception, having chosen to move into the city and live among humans and other folks as one of them... more or less. Otherwho makes a living running a teahouse at the north edge of Streamside; Otherwho has not given their shop a name—and if asked for its name explicitly says it doesn't have one—; others refer to it by various names such as "Otherwho's" or just "the teahouse" if there's little potential for ambiguity. The tea shop has been quite successful, no doubt in part because the teas that Otherwho serves are made from plants and other materials from the forest not accessible to normal people... and also some of them may have magical properties. When not running the shop, Otherwho roams the neighborhood and interacts with people and socializes, never quite managing to pull off acting like an ordinary mortal—assuming they're even trying to.
From the outside, Otherwho's teahouse looks small and cozy, but Otherwho retains the common fey abilities of creating extradimensional spaces. Attentive visitors to the teahouse may notice that there are corners and passages that could not possibly exist within the teahouse's exterior dimensions; those determined to explore may find corridors and backways that lead to a seemingly endless series of rooms. Likely nobody except Otherwho themself knows exactly how big the teahouse is on the inside. An indeterminate number of friendly cats and other beasts roam the teahouse, or rather lesser fey in the form of such animals.
Occasionally, Otherwho takes a liking to or an interest in a specific person, and gives them one of two invitations. Sometimes, meeting someone in rough circumstances without a stable place to live, Otherwho will invite them to stay with them. People who accept this invitation and move into Otherwho's teahouse are seldom seen again, though it could very well be that they are still perfectly well and happy somewhere in its nonEuclidean depths. Other times, if Otherwho meets someone who they sense has a strong desire, will offer them some gift or some way to achieve their goal, but with the stipulation that they follow some seemingly arbitrary condition Otherwho sets. Otherwho keeps their word and gives those who accept the deal what they promise, but the consequences for failing to live up to the condition may be severe.
Otherwho is a tall, humanoid figure whose fey nature is evident mostly in their cervine ears, their twiglike hair, and the berries growing from the backs of their hands. Their face is long and somewhat horselike, with a tall but shallow nose and large brown eyes of slightly different sizes. They do not identify exclusively as male or female and answer to any pronouns, but they change themselves gradually to comport with the gender the person they are interacting with prefers to think of them as. They speak in a lilting, whispery voice, often inventing and then immediately defining their own words, which they seldom use again beyond the conversation when they coin them. Otherwho wears loose brown hooded robes—though they never wear the hood up—that they apparently make themselves out of some unidentified fibers.
