With very few exceptions, the administrators and white-collar workers of the establishments along the highway do not live in Nungunny; they live in a more upscale area and commute to the neighborhood for work. However, Nungunny residents do make up most of the less high-status positions: janitors, groundskeepers, secretaries, general laborers. It can happen that someone starting in such a low position, if they prove themselves, can raise their standing. Iuther Magili is one such case; beginning in his youth as a worker in the warehouse of Sapphire Star Chemicals, a job where he was poorly paid and frequently exploited and mistreated, he showed enough drive and initiative to receive a series of promotions until he eventually found his way into the lower management. However, he didn't forget his roots or the former coworkers that still toiled in the harsh conditions he had escaped, and when he failed to use his management position to effect the changes he thought were just and necessary, he took a different tack and organized a union at the company, encouraging the workers to strike and protest for reforms, and openly supporting them in their efforts. Despite resistance from the upper management, the union's tactics were ultimately successful, and forced the company to implement significant improvements in its employees' working conditions. Moreover, it set an example for other companies, and led to a blossoming of unionization efforts among many industries all over Lüm.

Magili's work did not win him friends among his supervisors. While they decided against further antagonizing the union by firing him, they did effectively demote him and relieve him of much of his responsibilities—a possible consequence Magili had anticipated, and that he thought was well worth what he had achieved. He has, however, become beloved by large segments of the working class, being seen as the main driving force behind the city's current unionization movement. Some of his friends and allies have encouraged Magili to run for public office, and while he hasn't committed to the idea, he hasn't dismissed it either. Naturally, though, Magili's championing of the cause of the workers has also won him important enemies among the bourgeoisie. He has weathered several smear campaigns and even a couple of attempts on his life, but he still continues to agitate for the rights of workers and the bettering of their condition.

Iuther Magili is a stocky, barrel-chested man a little below average height, his tawny skin permanently stained by chemicals in various places. He has large hands and a big square head topped by curly light brown hair that he keeps relatively short. He has a low, resonant voice and takes deep breaths before he speaks. Magili's usual costume is gray coveralls, unusual for someone in his position but intended to show his solidarity for the working class he rose from. These coveralls usually hide the large rectangular green scales on his back that are a mark of his crocodile navanar heritage.
