March 12, 2026: Daily NPC—Jemari Lerenen

Among the residents of Graypool is one genuine celebrity known throughout Djarvin and to a lesser extent over all of Curcalen. Jemari Lerenen is a world-renowned author who grew up in Graypool and, despite her now being more than wealthy enough to afford a mansion in a wealthy area like Northshore or Riverway, still lives near where she was raised—although she's certainly upgraded to a much larger house. Lerenen does not interact often with her fellow Graypoolers, spending much of her time either ensconced in her house writing or traveling on book tours and vacations, but she does make appearances at some festivities and special events, and is friendly and gracious when she does.

Although she has written some well-regarded books in other genres, the genre that Lerenen is best known for is the mystery. She has written dozens of well-regarded mysteries, many starring her most popular fictional sleuths Wallak Iras and Vireena Njar. Her stories are lauded for their well-drawn, complex characters and their psychological insight. Several of Lerenen's books have been adapted to mins, with varying levels of faithfulness and success. Twice a year, Lerenen enjoys hosting mystery parties at her house, where guests are supposed to solve a fictional murder she arranges to be acted out during the event. Many of her guests are notable editors and fellow writers, but she also includes some lucky locals on the guest lists.

Jemari Lenenen is a short, plump, moon-faced woman whose light brown skin appears perpetually moist, an effect of her alicund ancestry, as is the greenish shade of her tightly curled hair. She has a broad, flat nose, prominent dimples, and an impish smile. Lenenen has a liquid voice and a habit of talking as if she's in the middle of a conspiracy, often dropping to a near-whisper as if afraid of being overheard despite saying nothing dangerous or objectionable. She favors fringed dresses in warm colors, with half a dozen different bracelets on each arm.
