January 13, 2026: Daily NPC—Meregith Lansiger
As the city's expansion made Rosemary Hill start to lose its cachet and property values dropped, most of the old inhabitants simply moved out. Meregith Lansiger, however, refused to accept the changes, and not only stayed in her manor, but fought to the end to try to drive out the newcomers and preserve her neighborhood as it was. And she did fight literally to the end; she dropped dead in the middle of an attempt to destroy a tract of housing north of the Hill.
Or perhaps that wasn't the end, because while it was the end of Meregith's life, she hung on after death. Meregith Lansiger still lingers in Rosemary Hill as a ghost, and still resents what happened to the opulent neighborhood she used to love. She has finally more or less resolved herself to the fact that things will never go back to what they were, but she's not happy about it, and she takes out her frustrations by doing her best to make the current residents miserable. She wanders the Hill invisibly, doing what she can to undermine and sabotage the activities of the locals, sometimes making herself briefly visible to give someone a scare. So far her efforts have mostly amounted to little more than petty mischief, and she hasn't actually killed anyone... yet. But she's certainly thought about it, and if she continues to escalate her actions as she has been recently, it may be only a matter of time.
When she can be seen, Meregith Lansiger appears much as she did just before her death—an ancient woman with a pinched, wrinkled face, her dark eyes glittering malevolently in their deep sockets. She wears a gray and silver gown that has been somewhat torn and tattered from her activities just before her death—she definitely does not like appearing in such damaged garb, but in her ghostly state she has no way of repairing it.
