March 4, 2026: Daily NPC—The Foregood
According to the most widely accepted version of events, it started because of a mysterious egg—or egg-shaped object—that had been stored in a Foregood Shipping warehouse. Foregood Shipping had been partnering with Exnovations, a company that was focused on searching other planes for resources and summonables that could be harvested there, and apparently the egg was something they had found on one of their explorations and had brought into Lüm with the intent of further investigating it. That the egg hatched, as is often claimed, is probably not literally true, as it was probably not a literal egg, but in any case it somehow either brought into existence or transported to its location some kind of strange and powerful creature that relatively quickly transformed the warehouse interior to something closer to its alien home environment. What happened to the people inside the warehouse at the time—which included some Foregood and Exnovations personnel as well as a few security guards—is unclear, whether they were devoured by the creature, transported to its home plane, or transformed into something totally different. In any case, what happened to the warehouse couldn't be kept a secret; not only were there strange noises and lights coming from within, but occasionally strange creatures—much smaller than the great thing that had first appeared there, but no less bizarre—came out of the warehouse and roamed the surrounding streets—although it's very possible some Foregood or Exnovations employees with knowledge of the situation would have talked and rumors would have spread regardless. The creature that had first effected the warehouse's transformation came to be referred to as the Foregood Monster, and eventually just as the Foregood as its fame eclipsed that of the company.
It has now been ten years since the Foregood first eppeared, many people have tried to enter the warehouse to see what was within, and few have come back out. Those that did return told of the interior of the warehouse being altered beyond recognition, of being filled with unidentifiable growths and shapes and of space itself seeming warped and twisted. It seems likely that the inside of the warehouse has become a crepature connected presumably to whatever plane Exnovations found the egg on, and very possible that that connection is growing stronger. Certainly the number of creatures coming out of the warehouse has been increasing over time, and while the distortions and oddities within the warehouse don't otherwise seem to have spread into the surrounding areas, there is some evidence that it's started to spread into the sewers under the warehouse. Many people believe it's imperative to destroy whatever is in the warehouse before it's too late... but no one is sure how to do it. Destroying the warehouse itself seems to pose a risk of releasing whatever is inside...
Reports of the appearance of the Foregood vary, to the extent that many suspect they don't all describe the same creature but that there is more than one huge, weird monstrosity lairing in the former warehouse. There are, however, some details that appear in many, though not all, reports. A crocodilian or perhaps pterosaurian head at the end of a long, sinuous neck—or in some accounts multiple heads. Many-jointed limbs that have no obvious points of attachment to the body. A tail or tentacle, or possibly more than one, with something at the end that could be an eye or could be a tiny portal. The creature's color is usually reported as either glossy black or dark silver, though it's also often said to be transparent or to have blurry outlines; some have described it as resembling a shadow. Some accounts say that it jitters between different locations, or that waves of distortion pass over its form.
