Although most people of Graypool don't know it, there is another group that exercises a significant amount of secret power in the neighborhood and beyond. Graypool houses a local headquarters of a minor wizard covin called the Évoluerie, which focuses on the transitions between states of élan vital. The Graypool cell in particular is interested in conversion of élan âmal into élan féerique that leads to the spontaneous creation of the fey, and have established their base of operations in Graypool to observe the phenomenon firsthand.

The Évoluerie is not nearly as widespread and as powerful as the major covins like the Long-Handled Net or the Velvet Mask, or even the multicontinental presence of second-tier covins like Sussurus, but where it does exist it has considerable local power. The Évoluerie and its agents exert subtle nudges and magical promptings to get things in Graypool to go the way they want, all for the sake of continuing their studies and bolstering their power.

The local head of the Évoluerie in Graypool is a bald gjana named Hvalda Ølet. She has high shoulders, a swaying gait, and indigo skin. Ølet's ears are small and round, her nose arched and elevated, and her eyes small and always glancing about. She has a cooing voice and often sighs deeply before speaking. Ølet's usual costume is a lacy blouse and a long skirt that she holds up with both hands when crossing mud or anything else that might dirty it.
