February 12, 2026: Nungunny—Key Faction

With its culturally diverse population and its low socioeconomic level away from the highway, Nungunny has no formal government below the municipal level. However, one thing that many of the cultures the people of Nungunny belong to have in common is respect for their elders, those in their community that have lived long lives and accumulated experience and wisdom. If anyone leads the people of Nungunny, then, it is their elders. Normally each elder provides guidance for their own family or community, but in times of crisis or when something occurs that affects large parts of the neighborhood, it has been known for elders from many families to meet and discuss what they should do. These councils of elders are always temporary and have no set leaders, but they do usually manage arrive at decisions more or less by consensus, even if not all the elder are entirely happy with the result.

Not everyone in Nungunny, of course, respects the elders and their decisions. There are some cultures with different values who do not have such veneration for the aged; there are rebellious youths who want to go their own way. Still, a large enough proportion of Nungunny's population does respect the elders that their advice and decisions carry a lot of weight, and they could perhaps be said to run Nungunny as much as anyone does.
