The Glades are one of Lüm's newest, wealthiest, and least densely populated neighborhoods. They are also easily Lüm's greenest neighborhood, the houses here nestled in small clearings cut in the forest that fills the area. The residents of the Glades tend to be the kind of people who want isolation and privacy or who appreciate nature and scenery, or both... and of course who have the means to afford to live here.

Most of the denizens of the Glades don't want to be bothered by the lower classes, and have the security to make sure they aren't. Few outsiders have reason to come to the Glades except servants who work for the rich residents and laborers and tradesmen coming to do work at their estates. The occasional tourist does wander in trying to get a glimpse of the opulence on display here, but while the Glade's inhabitants can't legally keep them off the public roads, they certainly turn away anyone who comes too close to their homes—and many of them are not beyond using force to do so.

That isn't to say that the Glades are a place of perfect peace and idyllic beauty, as much as the residents might want it to be. Wild animals from the forest occasionally cause trouble on the estates, and there is a constant simmering conflict between the Glade residents who want to try to exterminate all these troublemaking beasts and those who are appalled by this idea and consider the proximity to wildlife one of the perks of living there. There is also some level of animosity between the more sociable Gladers who invite outsiders to their estates for parties and events and those who prefer to leave the Glades only to their residents. And of course many Gladers have more personal differences with each other... and there may be some darker currents bubbling beneath the surface.

By design, the Glades have no prominent landmarks; most of its residents just want to be left alone. However, for that very reason it behooves them to have a place they can get the goods and services they want without leaving the Glades, and so a number of upscale specialty shops exist in the Glades to cater to its wealthy residents. The better to leave most of the Glades as undespoiled as possible, almost all these shops are concentrated in one small area that has come to be referred to as the "Village Center". People from other parts of Lüm often enjoy browsing at the Village Center despite its priciness, and this is the one part of the Glades where visitors are more or less expected, if not welcomed.
