Although the wealthy patricians who originally lived in Rosemary Hill moved away centuries ago, some of them may have left treasures and magic behind. Even though most of the old manors have since been repurposed as homes and shops for the area's current residents, there may be secret vaults and hidden chambers that have still not been found after all this time, and that may hide valuable riches... and very possibly terrible dangers. The PCs might be hired by a rich family in another ward to find and retrieve an important belonging of their ancestors that was left in their manor in the Hill, or they might stumble across some unexplored rooms on their own while exploring the neighborhood (or while falling down a sinkhole).
Example: The Onworth family used to live in Rosemary Hill, but now have an estate in the district of Greenwood. However, many family members have been falling victim to a magical curse, and the paterfamilias, Jodiah Onworth, suspects that it's due to an ancient mask their ancestors illegally looted and left behind on the Hill in a subterranean complex concealed beneath their manor. Previously, the family had kept silent because they didn't want their ancestors' misdeeds to come to light, but the threat of the curse has become a more pressing priority. Can the PCs get into the tunnel complex and retrieve the mask? Unfortunately, any maps of the complex or description of its contents have been long lost, so the Onworths are unable to give them much information about what to expect there...
The chaotic and eclectic nature of Rosemary Hill can make it difficult to find things there—but it also means it's a good hiding place for people who don't want to be found. It's not uncommon for fugitives to go to ground in the Hill, losing themselves amidst the bustle and bedlam. The PCs could be tasked with locating some wanted person who is believed to be holed up somewhere in the Hill, and have to navigate the neighborhood's muddle to track them down. Conversely, PCs who get in trouble with someone important might decide Rosemary Hill is a good place for them to lay low for a while...
Example: A master thief who has been plaguing the city's art museums has finally been identified, but has slipped through the fingers of the guard and is believed to have made their way to Rosemary Hill. Especially if the PCs have any prior familiarity or connection with the Hill, they may be asked to go there and try to apprehend the thief. Potentially making things more difficult are the rumors that the thief can change their shape and appearance...
The artists of Rosemary Hill are a highly eccentric lot, and not always content to use traditional media for their artwork. Some of the area's artists may have in mind rare and unusual substances they want to use for their art... and the wealthier artists, or those with wealthy patrons, may offer significant pay to those willing and able to acquire them.
Example The painterEstia Horlock has heard of a type of deep-seasquid whose ink sparkles and shimmers unlike any other substance she knows of. She thinks this ink could be used to make a wonderful paint, and she's found a rich patron who's interested enough in buying art made with such a paint that they've agreed to fund an expedition to retrieve some of the squid, if they can find anyone who'll go on the expedition...
Many of the artists of the Hill incorporate magic into their work. Often this magic is just used to make paintings and sculptures move or to appear differently on different times of day. Sometimes, however, the magic has greater effects—usually beneficial to the artwork's owner, but sometimes, due either to a mistake made with the magic or (rarely) due to an artist's malicious or mischievous intent, enchanted artwork may become a serious problem...
Example:Laragan Endel of the Lakewood district visited Rosemary Hill recently and bought an unusual painting showing a collection of strange creatures capering under an odd-looking moon. Since she brought the painting home, though, creatures have been occasionally emerging from the painting and wreaking havoc on her estate. She's been unable to find anyone who can identify the creatures or give her advice on how to get rid of them and, out of other options, she asks the PCs to find the artist she bought the painting from and persuade them to tell them how to deal with it. She didn't get the artist's name, but can give them a rough description...
