January 16, 2026: Rosemary Hill—Rival Faction

Although many residents of Rosemary Hill look up to Mercian Olevord, not all the Hill's residents are his admirers. Rosemary Hill, after all, draws the offbeat amd the outré, and to many of its alternativist artists Olevord represents the establishment, a stodgy figure of conformity to be tolerated rather than emulated. Some, however, go even further, regarding Olevard and the traditional conventions that he represents as something to be not only ignored but to be actively opposed. Not satisfied with just doing their own thing and leaving the orthodox Olevord and his followers to their own devices, these malcontents preach against the stagnant formularity that they feel the old artist personifies, striving to sway other artists away from his orbit and limit his influence over the Hill.

It would be against these iconoclasts' principles to have any sort of formal hierarchy or official leaders, but if any of them does stand out as the most prominent and powerful it's Berena Relalli. Relalli is a fiery orator who never tires of recounting everything she feels is wrong with the mainstream art world, and lambastes Olevord in particular as its exemplar. A painter herself, Relalli champions an artistic emphasis on evoking emotions rather than simply trying to faithfully replicate real appearances; her paintings are characterized by bold splashes and swashes of contrasting colors, not clearly portraying any particular objects but certainly provocative. She has accumulated a number of acolytes who imitate her techniques—perhaps ironically, given her criticism of Olevord for doing the same.

Berena Relalli is a solidly-built, olive-skinned woman with a piercing gaze. She has a habit of jerking her head to throw her long black hair over her shoulder, especially when she's agitated (which is often). Relelli's usual attire is a coarse, brown, knee-length gown; one thing she does have in common with Olevord is that her clothing is usually spattered with paint.
