January 14, 2026: Rosemary Hill—Goods and Services
Rosemary Hill has the same types of small shops as most other primarily residential neighborhoods—grocers, bakeries, latheries—but they cater primarily to the needs of locals. If you're visiting the Hill from elsewhere, you're almost certainly there for the art.
Many of the eccentric artists of Rosemary Hill are self-taught, their often outlandish works being aptly describable as outsider art—but that has its appeal to some buyers. There are artists in the Hill, however, who have more talent and training, but who still sell their work for a fraction of what a similar piece might fetch downtown. A connoisseur with an eye for good art could make a decent profit buying such pieces in Rosemary Hill and flipping them elsewhere, and there are some merchants who do just that... although they have to be subtle about it, as most of the artists of the Hill are doing it for love of the craft and if they know that someone only wants to buy their wares so they can resell them for a profit, they may refuse to sell.
Some of the art sold on the Hill has more than visual appeal. Certainly the artists of Rosemary Hill include many painters, carvers, and sculptors, but they also include skilled craftsmen whose finely wrought tools and devices are works of art in themselves. A discerning shopper can find a skillfully made clock, spyglass, or knife in the Hill for a much lower price than an item of similar quality will fetch elsewhere. The artisans of the Hill have a fondness for odd decorative flourishes and idiosyncratic design choices, and a crafted item bought at Rosemary Hill is likely to have a very unusual appearance, but in ways that don't interfere with their functionality. A few of Rosemary Hill's craftsmen even have some skill in imbuing objects with magical powers, and it's possible to find some magical objects there, though often with quirky abilities. You won't likely find a magical sword that can burst into flame for sale in Rosemary Hill, but you might find a vial of oil that permanently changes the color of objects it's rubbed on, or a bracelet that lets the wearer temporarily turn their arm into a tentacle.
Street food is also available everywhere in the Hill, with ubiquitous food stalls where visitors can buy spiced dumplings, meat and vegetable skewers, deep-fried turnovers with all sorts of fillings, and all sorts of other assorted tasty tidbits. Few come to Rosemary Hill just for the street food, but the street vendors do make a lot of sales to visitors who are there for other reasons.
