January 5, 2026: Fishertown—Principal Feature
Fishing has been an important part of Lüm's economy since the days of the League of Six before Djarvin was a unified nation, and this area has been associated with the profession almost since the beginning. Fishertown comprises a series of manmade harbors where fishermen dock their boats, surrounded by shacks and tenements where they make their homes and warehouses owned by fishmongers who buy their wares from the fishermen.
Because it's one of the oldest parts of the city, Fishertown is also known for the archæological finds that occasionally turn up here. Friction between historians from the university wanting to study the area and the fishermen whose homes they want to dig underneath is frequent, and occasionally heated.
Even today, the fishermen, despite their importance to the city, are relatively poor and often overlooked. Still, the situation used to be worse, until two hundred years ago the residents of Fishertown, objecting to certain unfair city policies, rose up in what came to be called the Fishers' Revolt. The fight was hard, but eventually the fishermen won the reforms they sought, and in a further attempt to placate them the government of Lüm erected a monument in Fishertown to honor the fishermen's service. This monument, a statue called the Doughty Angler, still stands today, and is perhaps Fishertown's most salient landmark.
